Stockdorf / Munich. – March 21, 2013 – Many new installation kits are now available for the Webasto Cool Top Vario electric parking cooler. They make it possible to retrofit the air conditioning system, thus saving time. The customized solutions, which are available for about 80 percent of all vehicle types, have the advantage that the cover of the roof-mounted system is perfectly matched to the design of the vehicle. Additionally, Webasto provides a universal kit, suitable for another approx. 20 percent of all trucks. Thus a solution exists for almost every vehicle whose height permits a rooftop air conditioning system. The kits will be available throughout Europe via the Webasto dealer network starting in mid-March 2013 (except for the IVECO Stralis: 2nd quarter of 2013).
Plug & Drive - Quick retrofitting and then ready for work immediately
The Cool Top Vario is built into the existing roof hatch of the truck, screwed on using mounting rods, and connected to the 24 V on-board electronic system. Robert Lang, Director of Product Market Management Heavy Duty at Webasto, says: “For a carrier, every hour during which a truck is at a standstill is a loss. The installation of a Cool Top Vario usually takes no more than three hours. One reason for the short assembly time: The seal around the roof opening can be attached quickly and easily without additional adhesive because the system is already equipped with strips of adhesive tape.”
Reliable engine starting & comfortable climate
The electric parking cooler is powered by the 24 V electrical system. Although the system is operated using the vehicle battery, the driver does not have to worry that the engine may no longer start after a long break. This is monitored by the undervoltage protection of the Cool Top Vario: it is individually adjustable and automatically switches off when the lower voltage limit of the battery is reached. The clear advantage of electric power: the system provides a pleasant cabin climate even when the truck is stationary and during longer breaks (up to ten hours). Since the Cool Top Vario works independently of the engine, idling the engine for cooling purposes is unnecessary. This protects the environment and saves both fuel and money.
At 1000 watts, the air conditioner has a much higher capacity than other products on the market. Webasto developed the Cool Top Vario together with the Stuttgart-based Behr company, whose patented comfort nozzle is installed in the product. It spreads the cooled air evenly in the cab, so that drafts can not occur.
The air conditioner and the installation kits are available from authorized Webasto dealers. The cost for the installation kit depends on the vehicle; the price for the universal kit – consisting of a cover frame, mounting rods, screws, seal and installation instructions – is 135 euros in Germany. The recommended retail price for the air conditioner is 1619 euros. These prices are valid only for Germany and do not include tax.
