Stockdorf/Munich – November 10, 2020 – Drivers who opt to purchase an electric car will receive increasing support from the state. In Germany, subsidies will soon be available not only for the electric car itself, but for the charging station too. An application can be made to the KfW Development Bank (Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau – KfW) for a 900 euro subsidy towards a private smart charging station, such as the Webasto Live.

The KfW grants the subsidy if

  • one is a tenant, landlord, private owner or member of a condominium association,
  • the charging station is used exclusively at a privately accessible parking space,
  • the total cost of the device and installation amounts to at least 900 euro,
  • the maximum installed charging capacity of the charging station is 11 kilowatts,
  • the charging station has an intelligent controller,
  • the charging station is listed on the KfW website,
  • the electricity supplied to the charging station comes 100 percent from renewable energy sources (e.g. from a domestic photovoltaic system or green electricity via the energy utility).

If all of these requirements are met, the charging station is eligible for “Grant 440”. From November 24, 2020, a form will be available on the KfW website that can be used to make an online application for the 900 euro grant. It is important to note that the grant must first be applied for and be confirmed before (!) the charging station is purchased or ordered. Questions on this issue will be answered by the Webasto Hotline at +800-CHARGING (00800-24274464) or by visiting www.webasto-charging.com.

To calculate the cost, the device itself and the installation work – such as site analysis, connection and commissioning – are taken into consideration for each charging point. If the total cost of the charging station and installation is over 900 euro, the KfW grant can then be claimed. “Such financial support from the state makes it easier for everyone to access electromobility – which means that road-going electromobility can be expanded throughout Germany at a much faster pace,” says Heike Niehues, who has global responsibility for Webasto’s aftermarket business, underlining the importance of the KfW initiative.

Anyone who has had their KfW grant application approved can purchase their device and apply for a preliminary site survey at www.webasto-charging.com. This is performed by a certified electrician, who thoroughly examines the on-site conditions and prepares an individual cost estimate for the installation. Once a corresponding order has been issued, the electrician carries out the installation  work in full, including initial commissioning.

After completion of all works, the invoices for the charging station, site survey and installation are submitted collectively to KfW so that the funds can be disbursed.

The Webasto Live is “Made in Germany”. It is smart and networked and remains future-proof thanks to regular online updates. The device can, moreover, be managed via an app with the integrated connectivity package.
