Trailblazer for the Mobility of the Future: Webasto at the IAA 2021
Stockdorf, September 6, 2021 – At this year's IAA, visitors can experience Webasto at three destinations. Webasto, systems partner to almost all car manufacturers will present innovations around the topics of autonomous driving, electromobility and comfort in the vehicle interior on the exhibition floor in Hall B3, Booth B80. Webasto’s customized solutions around sustainable travel and electric driving will be the focus at the Open Space in downtown Munich (Odeonsplatz, Booth OP430). Webasto will also present its battery solutions in motion on buses from its partners Otokar and CM Fluids on the Blue Lane, the the connecting route between the two venues . Additionally, an extensive program of presentations and interactive events will complement the global supplier's trade show presence.
The Webasto showcar: A contribution for the mobility of tomorrow
The highlight of Webasto's presence at this year's IAA is the concept car with which the company demonstrates its systems expertise. The show car bundles the automotive supplier's extensive product portfolio, from a efficient heating system, Webasto's passenger car battery and smart charging solution to its innovative roof solution for autonomous driving to. Sensors and cameras for autonomous driving are seamlessly and elegantly integrated in the Roof Sensor Module. To ensure the functionality of the sensor system in all weather conditions or when dirty, Webasto uses intelligent thermal management and various innovative cleaning systems. The concept car is powered by Webasto's passenger car battery, which will be produced in Dangjin, Korea, beginning in 2022, as part of a collaboration with Hyundai-Kia Motors Corporation. In addition to the show car, Webasto will demonstrate a prototype of a Webasto DC Wallbox, which enables scalable charging and discharging power of up to 22 kW.
Smart and connected: The new charging station Webasto Next
Webasto is showing its latest addition to its charging portfolio for the first time at the IAA Mobility. The Webasto Next charging station, available for private and commercial use, enables the intelligent and efficient charging of electric vehicles with a charging power of up to 22 kW. Always online and controllable via app and portal, the charging solution has various communication interfaces for system integration and will be available with cable lengths of 4.5 m or 7 m. Thanks to the new Webasto ChargeConnect backend system, the wallbox has a comprehensive package of digital functions for managing and controlling the charging solution. Users of the charging stations and fleet managers can access the current status of the charging station, charging history, energy consumption and other information from anywhere.
More than a roof
Under the motto "More than a roof...", Webasto’s concept turns vehicle roofs into a design element, increases comfort, provides entertainment and creates fresh air and visibility. The “Privacy” Tomorrow Roof Concept, for example, combines a large, transparent glass surface for bright ambience with switchable glazing and ventilation. But the integration of antenna modules, lighting elements or screens are also possible options.
Battery solutions in motion
On the 12-kilometer route between the IAA Summit and Open Space, Webasto is showcasing its battery solutions with two buses. The Webasto battery is being used in a CO₂-neutral shuttle bus from start-up CM Fluids, which normally operates at the Munich Airport. The innovative electric drive impresses with a long range, as a result of a Webasto buffer battery that is charged, as needed, by a small gas engine in the vehicle. Liquid biomethane serves as the fuel.
Together with Otokar, a leading Turkish bus manufacturer, Webasto is also presenting the all-electric e-Kent C city bus. Up to ten battery packs, each with a total storage capacity of 35 kilowatt hours, are mounted on the roof and at the rear of the bus and provide a range of over 300 kilometers, depending on the terrain and usage profile.
Varied program at the Open Space
From specialist presentations to the student competition, visitors can experience an exciting and daily-changing program on the topics of electromobility, auxiliary heating and careers at Webasto’s stand in the Open Space (Odeonsplatz, OP430), beginning September 7. Click here for an overview. The highlight of the program is a panel discussion on the topic of "Solar energy in electromobility - potentials and limits" on September 8 from 1-1:30 p.m. (CET), during which experts from Webasto, the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar and Energy Systems ISE and Sono Motors GmbH will discuss the potential of solar power and its automotive future. The expert exchange will also be broadcast on the Webasto Group LinkedIn channel on September 9 at 5 p.m. (CET).
